Random Sampling Techniques for All Manure Holding Structures

  1. It is HIGHLY recommended to agitate the manure structure for a minimum of 4 hours prior to removal of nutrients.

  2. Take 15 sub-samples per lab sample to get an accurate nutrient value.

  3. When the structure is approximately one third empty, mix your sub-samples, and fill the provided sample bottle. Label the sample bottle "A".

  4. On earthen structures, continue to move the agitator around the basin to properly distribute the solid buildup throughout the manure.

  5. Continue pumping the structure and take the samples randomly until the structure is two-thirds empty. Again mix your sub-samples, and fill the provided sample bottle. Label the sample bottle "B".

  6. Repeat step number 5 for the final one-third.

  7. Refrigerate/freeze within 24 hours.
